Saqib Ali
Welcome.

Dear Friend,

In April of this year I announced that I would vacate my seat in the House of Delegates to run for the State Senate. On Tuesday we had that Democratic primary election. And even though we ran a great grassroots campaign, our efforts came up just short. Senator Nancy King prevailed 51.74% – 48.26%. The difference was 248 votes. My sincerest congratulations to Senator King on her victory. I will support her as she moves on to face a Republican challenger in November’s general election.

I owe a huge debt of thanks to thousands of people who supported this campaign by voting, volunteering, donating and assisting in numerous other ways. Together we built an impressive grassroots force. We ran a substantial, issues-oriented campaign. This was a very hard-fought election. But all of us can hold our heads very high for putting forth the honorable and very valiant effort. I’m proud to have worked side-by-side with all these wonderful, idealistic and optimistic people. I can never say “Thank You” enough.

Right now I’m not sure what the future holds for me. I will take some time to pay attention to my (much neglected!) family and personal life. It has been the highest privilege to represent the residents of Maryland for the past 4 years and I look forward to serving out my current term as State Delegate until January. I do wish to stay in touch with all the friends I’ve met and made along the way.

Sincerely,
Saqib Ali

Back in April I declared my candidacy for State Senate and together we set out to build a grassroots campaign for new leadership in District 39. Over the last several months we have done just that.  Our campaign has knocked on nearly 30,000 doors and made almost 35,000 phone calls with the help of hundreds of dedicated volunteers.

Now I ask that you do the most important thing: go to the polls tomorrow and cast your vote for Saqib Ali for Maryland State Senate. Working together over these next four years we will put the public’s interest over the special interests. We will fight to protect public school funding, advocate for equal rights, close corporate tax loopholes, open up state government and give District 39 a real voice in Annapolis.  Watch the video below for more insight into our community-based, progressive campaign.

The polls will open tomorrow morning at 7 AM and close at 8 PM. You can look up your polling location by clicking here. Please be sure to get out and vote and encourage your friends and family to do the same.  Too much is on the line to let this election slip away.  Watch the clip below from my most recent debate with Nancy King for a reminder of why this election is so important.

P.S. My opponent has run the nastiest campaign in Montgomery County history.  Allan Lichtman recently wrote in the Gazette, “The District 39 race quickly turned nasty and personal, especially on the King side.” Click here to see Nancy King and I discuss the tenor of the race on TV.  Stand with us this Primary Election Day to send a message that this old-school politics has no place in Montgomery County.

Our volunteers swarmed the Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade this Monday, continuing to build grassroots support for Saqib’s progressive candidacy.  Check out the video below of Team Ali at the parade.
